Sooke provides access to the nutrient-rich waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, a prime habitat for various salmon species. Chinook salmon, also known as "kings," are particularly abundant from May through October, with some reaching over 30 pounds during peak season . Coho salmon, renowned for their spirited fight, typically appear in July, followed by sockeye, pink, and chum salmon in late summer and autumn. The proximity of productive fishing grounds, such as Possession Point and Otter Point, allows for quick access to excellent fishing opportunities just minutes from the dock .
